Ella Mezule on 'Certain about Uncertainty':

"Influenced by Magical Realism, Art Nouveau, and the world of painting, my work gravitates toward deconstructing the obvious, opening another dimension of the given idea.
For the last couple of years, I have been working as a freelance Art Director and Illustrator for a variety of projects like cover illustrations and designs for music albums, posters, infographics, book illustrations, editorials, murals, illustrations for animation, and much more, blurring the line between physical reality and inner space. Besides all the mentioned above, I work on my personal visual storytelling.
Illustration Certain About Uncertainty embodies both – empowerment and anxiety of not knowing.
The work is part of the series I started to work on in an Artist residency in Porto, 2021.
A Series of works from Porto Residency is a poetical visual contemplation that deconstructs the origins of one's self-perception and identity in a metaphorical way in current times of globalization when personal identity is shaped by a cultural mixture between local heritage and information/ values and perception influenced by other cultures and current global circumstances."
