Artwork description
Let Them Eat Nothing came from a build-up of frustration towards the government. For Sarah Maple, this had been brewing for some time but particularly since the pandemic.
As UK citizens rely more and more on food banks and even warm banks this winter, she feels there is a ‘let them eat cake’ attitude from those in power. The work also reflects on the aftermath of ‘party-gate’ and our PM apparently being ‘ambushed with a cake’. With many saying ‘it’s all a lot of fuss over a cake’. Sarah Maple felt this was the perfect symbol to reflect The State We’re In.
